Barry M Peach Melba

After noticing the gorgeous Barry M Nail Paint, Peach Melba in Boots the other day I've been dying to try it out and last night was the night. It's quite strange but recently I've gone nail polish free which is unusual for me so it felt nice having bright, colourful nails again. I love them. The application was perfect and after only two coats I was left with a bold opaque colour. It has worn slightly during the day which is to be expected really as I have been a busy bee, but I think they will still look fine for a few more days.

I've been a huge fan of accent nails for quite some time but instead of choosing a different colour (because I love this one so much!) I opted for polkadots which I am equally obsessed with. I've had so many compliments at work today so I think Barry M's sales will have increased slightly once again. I think this has got to be my new favourite summer colour.

What nail varnish are you currently sporting?

Wednesday Ramble: A bit of this and a bit of that

It feels so odd to realise that it's been almost a full week since I last posted anything on my beloved blog. Though the reason for this is that I've not really had that much to say, work has kind of taken over my life this week. I think when it comes to blogging you know when I'm on my late shifts at work because I just don't post as much. To be honest I don't really do that much in general. Finishing work at 8pm for a full week doesn't leave much of the day left to do anything fun. Hopefully with the upcoming change in rotas I may get my life back but I guess that we will just have to wait and see.

One thing that working these late shifts does make me realise, is just how much I want to start my own business. At every spare moment I've been creating items for my shop, and also little projects given to me by friends. Like yesterday for example, I was given the challenge of creating a little pouch from the tooth fairy. A friends/colleagues granddaughter was having her teeth taken out and she wanted something to put money in from the 'tooth fairy' for when she came round. I rose to the challenge and was quite impressed with what I came up with in such short notice. I was terrified though, and it turns out that I don't cope with that kind of stress very easily. Creating things which people then choose to buy is fun, creating something with very little direction, not even a colour preference is very difficult. I just went with the flow but I panicked all night with the fear that she wouldn't like it. Luckily she did. Unluckily, or just the case of being a bad blogger I failed to take a picture of it, but it turns out that I have to make another one soon for her other granddaughter so you'll get your picture then.

I'm hoping to start some wood work soon as well, which I'm quite excited about. I've always enjoyed creating little pieces out of wood and I have plenty of new ideas. I just need to get my head around what tools I need and what wood would be the best choice, and then the world is my oyster.

So even though I've not done a lot, my mind has been working on overdrive. Which is rather frustrating as I'm always so tired when finishing work that I don't have an outlet I just end up falling asleep!

On a brighter note (though the notes above haven't been dull... I hope) I have enjoyed spending time with the husband. He's moved back to his normal shop now, which I'm loving. Though it costs us more a month, nothing compares to being able to travel to work together in the morning, or when he walks 2 miles to meet me from work after a particular tough and draining day. I don't know if it's because now we're married, or that the more time I spend with him the more I love him but recently I love him more than I could have ever imagined. He's all I've been thinking about (well him and crafting. haha.) In fact the amount of times I've spoke about him this week is unreal and it's only Wednesday. I'm obsessed with my husband. At least I'm married to him and I'm not just some stalker freak, and it's a good job that the feelings are reciprocated. I don't know recently he's just made me so proud, even from the little things like fixing my Nanna's toilet to him just being him. Basically I love him!

When I first started writing this I had no idea where it was going to go, but now I'm here I've enjoyed every second of it. I love just opening up a page, typing, and just seeing where the words take you. I don't know if any of you guys do this but for me it's kind of a release. I love writing, I love my blog (which is why I started it in the first place) and I love words, though I'm not a very good speller. Thank you Apple for automatically telling me how absolutely useless at spelling I really am, I sound sarcastic but really I am grateful.

I'm off to read another book now. I'm onto my 4th book of my 30 book challenge, just another 26 books left before I can buy a new one. The only problem with this challenge is that the more I read, and the more I become absorbed in amazing and captivating story lines the more I have these crazy ideas where I want to become an author. Not sure about that one yet, but if it's still here in 6 months maybe I'll try and pursue it, if not it's will be just another one of those ideas that blow away in the wind.

I wonder who actually got this far and read my whole ramble? For me seeing a page full of writing daunts me slightly and a lot of the time I close the page without giving it a second thought, but those occasions where I have time to sit back and read someones heart pouring out in their writing I become enthralled and filled with such respect for the writer. You see it's hard for someone to open up their heart to the world, so when I read a post which does just that I am amazing but utterly inspired. I've not read something like this for a few weeks now, or maybe I've just closed the page on it, either way I'm going to vow that from now on it I see a post where someone has clearly taken a lot of time and energy I'm going to read the whole thing, even if there isn't a picture in sight. Yes I am a sucker for pretty pictures.

Speaking of pictures I couldn't let this post go by without posting a least one picture, who's blog do you think this is? haha.

Katie's Friday Night In

I'm sat having a lovely night in. Michael and I cooked dinner together, which consisted of minted lamb and chicken (odd combination I know) and homemade potato wedges... ahh-mazing! And now we're sat enjoying a nice relaxing evening in. I'm currently catching up on my youtube addiction, with a blob of sudocrem hopefully drying out a volcano of a spot, whilst cutting out many felt petals, and Mike's playing Xbox. Seriously I can probably sing each and every song on FIFA 11 from memory.
Mike always says, 'I know when I've played too long because you start to sing along to the game!' haha. And it's so true.

KatieWrite's Friday Night in
It's only whist writting this that I've realised that it's Friday night, and what  boring activites for a young married couple to get up to but, well that's just us. We hate the hustle and bustle of 'out  round town,' and would much prefer a few drinks 'down the local.' It's nice to actually hear what the other person is talking about you see. Though at the moment money is tight (car and tap troubles... grrr) and we've just had to make do with the venue of our home, which shhh, don't tell anyone... is our favourite place to be.

How are you spending this lovely rainy evening?

5 minutes to heaven... apparently

Mention the word diet and suddenly your body craves all sorts of sugary treats. With nothing in the house and refusing to just accept the cravings we decided to try the cake in a mug. 30 seconds and one google search later we had our ingredient list and recipe.

Cake in a mug Ingredients KatieWrites
We mixed everything together and banged it in the microwave for 3 minutes. And poof we're done. One (well two) chocolate cakes. Mike had the first bite, and loved it. Forgetting that I'd previously nicknamed Mike the rubbish bin, my experience was not as good, but being the picky eater that I am I didn't expect anything else really. I'm thinking that nuked food is not a good choice for me, who'd guessed? haha. On the plus side the cooking process was fun, and I no longer have my sugar cravings (probably due to a burnt tongue.)

CLose up OOTD KatieWrites

I picked up this dress in New Look a few weeks back for about £3 I believe, but have not had a chance to wear it, until today. I absolutely love it. It's so comfy and colourful. I did originally put on the one from my ebay haul but I'm not 100% sold on it yet so I changed. It may have to go in the to sell pile, but I'll give it a chance first.

Today we headed out to pick up our newly repaired car. We're very impressed as it only cost us £70 and that included repairing our exhaust. We've now found a reliable garage in our area, which apparently is very hard to find. Is it one of the strangest feelings to hand over your car keys to a complete stranger even if they do own a garage, but all turned out well in the end.

Im Handmade KatieWrites

I finished making two more bookmarks today and a hair clip. I'm slowly but surely building up stock for my shop. (Though I've already called dibs on the hair clip as you can tell by the pictures above.

My last post mentioned how our bad luck comes in threes, well I must have been wrong as our fourth thing broke last night - the kitchen tap! Which then led to our first married argument as Mike attempted to repair it at midnight just as we were heading to bed. We're ok now though and still laugh at the thought of it. It's funnier still that every time we want to wash our hands, visit the bathroom or anything at all water related we have to run into the garage to turn on the water supply to the house. haha. It turns out that the tap is unrepairable and we need a new one, but that will have to wait until payday. One day we will learn to have a little bit of money behind us, but until then we'll just plod on.

On a plus note we did pick up some cat and dog food on offer. I love bargains. Oh and Mike did treat me to the cutest pair of slippers ever, but you'll have to wait for my next post to see them. (I know, I know, I've just mentioned how skint we are but then bought some slippers, but in my defence they were only £5 and you definitely cannot get a new tap for that price.)

Hope you've had a lovely Wednesday.

All bad things come in 3's... The Third

I should be at work right now, in fact I should have been there at 9am, but I'm not. I'm sat at home with a poorly car outside. It sounds awful and it partly is, but at the same time I was very lucky. My accelerator cable snapped at I was travelling at 40mph on a dual carriage way. Luckily I was in the fast lane (not normally a lucky place to be as your car breaks down) next to a turn off, with no traffic on the opposite side of the dual carriage way and with quick thinking I made it down a side road as my car was slowly dying.

I'm pretty impressed with my parking skills, so obviously I needed to take a picture.

I phoned Mike, I phoned work, I phoned my Mum, and then I phoned AA. Pretty normal order of priority there. haha. I was informed that the AA would be with me within the hour so I sat back and waited. I was pretty impressed when they tunrned up within 30 minutes, and temporarily fixed my car so I could get home.
AA Roadside KatieWrites
I phoned work and requested today off as a holiday day, and surprisingly my request was granted. We're on the way to a local garage to get our lovely car fixed. Keep your fingers crossed for us that it doesn't cost too much.

Hauling: Ebay, Blog Sales and a bit of Boots!

Over the past few weeks I've been spending a little bit of money. Not too much that would break the bank, but I've definitely picked up some lovely bargain items, and to be honest I've not actually spent 'real' money. All the online purchases were paid through PayPal (the accumulated funds coming from Ebay sales) and the rest were bought with my Boots Advantage Card Points. Win, win!
Blog, Ebay, Boots Haul
I know that you can see some books, but don't worry I've not broken my 30 Book Challenge already, these were the few I mentioned here that were on their way (they just took forever!)
Ever More Books
I love teen-fiction as you've probably noticed by a few of my book reviews, here and here, so to find these for the bargain price of £5 including P+P was just great. I can't wait to get started with these but I have got a few I want to read first. I'm sure you'll see my opinion of them in a upcoming book review soon.
Collection 2000 Felt Tip Eyeliner, Peach Melba Barry M, UD 24/7
Next up is the make-up! Now I used to be obsessed with make-up, always desperate to try out 'that new product', but over time I got over it and only really buy the necessary items. And these are obviously necessary! haha.
I've been after a good black liquid eyeliner for years and have heard such great things about the Collection 2000 Extreme felt tip liner, so I had to pick it up. I tried 17's version a while back now and though I loved the application I found it transferred so easily and left me with a rather lovely dark patch in my crease... not a good look. I've already swatched this and so far so good. Cannot wait to try this out tomorrow.
I spotted Barry M's Peach Melba in Boots the other day and just had to pick it up. Since then I've noticed that the whole blogging community has had the same idea. I love the colours and it's just perfect for those summer months we should be getting. Also it seems perfect for my super pale skin.
Finally I picked up this Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner from a blog sale and I love it. It love the colour and I love the fact that it lasted all day. Plus it was only £1.50! Bargain.
TopShop Owl T-Shirt and No7 gel eyeliner
I love this t-shirt! As soon as I saw it in Jessica's blog I knew I had to have it. It took a while to get here but as a very kind and very unexpected gesture she popped in a No7 gel eyeliner in turquoise. I was so shocked. She didn't have to do that, but secretly I am so glad that she did. Go check out her blog because she is amazing, and so, so pretty!
No7 Gel Eyeliner in Turquoise
I cannot wait to give this beauty a try. So far I've only swatched it and I love the colour, but I want to see how this beast works.
Topshop Owl Boyfriend T-shirt
Just look at that top! I know you want it too!
Polkadot Skirt
Next up were my Ebay clothing buys. The polkadot skirt above is just so cute. I think I won this for £2 including P+P which is amazing. And below is a Primark dress from ebay that I got for less than £5. I know that you can get these type of dresses new for £5 but sadly I'm not a size 6, which are the only sizes they ever have in stock. Expect to see these in an outfit of the day, more than likely teamed up with leggings.

Hope you enjoyed my little haul.

Homemade: Bookmark

Handmade felt bookmark KatieWrites
I've spent the last few hours stitching away to create this lovely (if I do say so myself) bookmark. For a friend's birthday. I had planned on giving her a set of books, well what could be better than books but books and a bookmark? Obviously knowing Katie, this had to be handmade. So I got my thinking cap on a this is what I came up with.

I'm going to make many more of these now, and will be adding them to my shop once I set it all up. I cannot wait to set up my shop up but I want to have a collection of ideas and pre-made items before I start my venture. I'm so excited and loving every minute of the 'making' process.

Hope that you are all as excited as I am

Estee Lauder Double Wear Mini Review

Estee Lauder Double Ware Shell

Today I nipped into Boots to pick up my foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear, and having the typical pale English skin my shade is Shell. Over time I'd managed to save up my advantage card points so technically I picked this up for free. I am slightly disappointed that I didn't get to spend my points on anything more... fun, but look how she wrapped it!

Estee Lauder

Ok, it doesn't look that special in the picture, and I'm guessing that they normally wrap their products like this but I love it! This is my favourite foundation ever. The colour match is fantastic, though it does darken slightly the closer to the bottom of the bottle you get, which is not a good look. I asked the assistant about this and she recommended to make sure that the lid was securely tightened after each use, so I'll see how that goes. Fingers Crossed.
I've applied this foundation both with my fingers and a foundation brush, and though I prefer the finish with a brush I've been using my fingers to prevent wastage. You see a major downside to DoubleWear is that it doesn't come with a pump which means a lot of product is waisted until you get used to it. Unfortunately I'm not used to it yet. haha.
I would recommend this foundation to anyone, in fact I have, at work, and two people have already bought it and fell in love. I should be working on commission. The sales assistants are also so lovely and helpful so definitely go along and ask for a tester... which alone will last you 10 days! Bonus!

Estee Lauder Advanced night repair tester

She also gave me a sample of their Advanced Night Repair, which I'm looking forward to trying. It's a very light moisturising liquid which absorbs so quickly into the skin. It comes the cutest little bottle, but you only need a tiny bit so I'm sure this will last a while. (The full size is obviously much larger.)

What's your go to foundation?
Now I've found this I can't ever think of changing, but it is quite pricey.
Any cheaper alternatives would definitely be appreciated.

Post Workout Post

It's been almost one month since I first posted stating that I was starting my 30 day shred, and here I am posting my first update. I'm slightly ashamed to say that I only actually started today, but at the same time I'm also quite proud about that fact. If I had started when I first had the urge I would be at the end now and theoretically seeing some amazing results, but due to illness, tiredness and work it didn't work out that way.  (Har-har - 'work-out' that way)

Here I am on day one knowing that tomorrow will consist of one full day of pain and feeling slightly daunted. I completed day one red faced and rather sweaty, not a great look, but a sign of a good work out. Now I'm going to jump in the shower, but before I do so I'll leave you with this lovely image...

I heart New York...

Today I just finished reading my Point Horror book that I picked up at our local car boot sale. (The first book from my 30 Book Challenge.) I'd forgotten just how much I love these books! Now I'm not going to write a review on this because with Point Horror I tend to generalise them, even through so many different authors make up the collection. At first I did struggle with the 'he said, she said' writing style but it didn't take me long to settle in and enjoy the story. I would recommend that if you come across Point Horror books, pick them up, because if you've never read them you will love them, and if you have read them you will know what I'm talking about, (then send them along to me. haha.)

I heart New York Lindsey Kelk
I've picked up I heart New York to read next, and as you can tell by the picture above, we have no shortage of free copies of this book at work. I'm sure that everyone bought Glamour magazine for the free book, then nobody actually read it. Odd, but at least I got a free copy, whoop whoop! By the way this book was a free gift in Glamour magazine almost a year ago now. haha. I was actually thinking the other day that it's almost that season again where all the free books start coming out, and because it's free with a magazine I don't think that conflicts with my 30 book challenge. Hmmm...

Anyway, I'm off on a course at work tomorrow, which I'm not looking forward to. I don't enjoy situations like that where I don't really know what to expect. I can deal if I'm with someone, but if I'm on my own it just feels odd. Wish me luck.

30 Book Challenge

Description of Photo

I'm sure that you have all heard of the 10 pan challenge, well who hasn't? Well the concept to my 30 book challenge is pretty much the same. I've come to realise that I have a lot of books. Well that's an understatement! Every month I seem to add to this collection, and though I only ever buy books that are on offer this really does add up. I now have enough books to last me a year... at least.

So my 30 book challenge was born. Now bare in mind that so far this year I have only read 13 books, this challenge could last a long time. There are still some books I want, but they will still be there once my book challenge is over. This is going to be hard... sounds pathetic doesn't it?!

I'm hoping that this challenge will not only curb my spending habits, but encourage me to read more. Wish me luck!

Anyone else fancy joining me?

Book Haul: So many books

Over the past few weeks I've picked up so many new books. I know that I have some sort of addiction but I'm learning to come to terms with it. haha. I would say that I'm ashamed of buying all these, but to be honest I'm not. There are still a few more books that I want. haha, but I'm going to wait a while before I pick them up.

Book Haul

On Sunday, Michael and I got up very early to attend a local car boot sale and I must say that we had a lovely morning. We mainly went to pick up a few cheap books. Obviously. I love that you can pick up an unread book for 30p! Where else could you pick up a book for that price? There's only one problem, you start to become a little tight. You find yourself asking how much a book costs and if it's £1.50 or more you end up putting it back! Insane!

Car Boot Book Haul

I absolutely love point horror books and I always have, so coming across some made my day. I'm always on the hunt for these as they don't actually sell them anymore and the only place I can get hold of them are ebay and now it seems, car boots.
I have been drawn to 'The Winter Ghosts' for months now but have never actually picked it up so to get it for only 50p was a complete an utter bargain.
And finally I love Marian Keyes (see here) so it comes as no surprise that I picked up this. All the way around I was hoping that I didn't already own this one, but luck was on my side and I didn't.

As you can tell I had a good run. I manage to pick up all these for less than £3. It was also nice just wandering around without a care in the world. We also ate ice cream at 9:30 in the morning. Crazy!

Torey Hayden

Speaking of car boot sales, I picked these up from my Mums. A while back my Mum was having her very own car boot and I picked up these from her boxes before she left. She's always raving about how good Torey Hayden's books are so I thought that I'd give them a go. And I'm sure you've noticed Alan Titchmarsh's books in there as well... what can I say? My mum forced these upon me, and you never know... they might be good.

Asda Book Haul

These are a few other bargains that I picked up from various places. It will probably take me over a year to read all these but I'm so excited. I've also got a few more in the post that I won on ebay. I always get a bit bummed out when someone outbids me at the last minute, the sneaky buggers, but I won a few so I'm rather happy. 'Sister' was an ebay buy and it's in amazing condition. The five smaller books in the middle are from Asda, and all for the bargain price of £1 each! I've read one of Lisa Unger's books already and I really liked it, so I'm quite excited to read her others. And finally the Lindsey Kelk books on the end were an absolute steal from Sainsburys. Like many supermarkets Sainsburys have the 2 for £7 offer on most books, these actually came as a double pack and were still in the deal. So instead of 2 books I got 3 for £7. Ah-mazing!

I think I'm going to have to go on a book spending ban soon or my house will turn into a library. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. haha.

This is the current book that I'm reading. I'm rather enjoying it, so expect to see a book review on here very soon.

Happy Birthday Nanna

My Nanna turned the grand old age of 89 on June 10th, so to celebrate we took her out for a meal. Three generations of women sat around one table means the world to me. She spent her actual birth-'day' in the Isle of White which is where she was born and spend her childhood, before moving to good old Yorkshire to start her married life.

Country Lunch

My Nanna was her usual cheeky self and we ate, laughed, and joked all afternoon. I love spending time with her, and the more time my Mum and I spend with her, the more we begin to realise where our sense of humour comes from.

Owston Lunch

Owston Lunch

Beef Burger

I enjoyed a beef burger (as usual) with cheese and bacon, Nom Nom! My Mum and Nanna both enjoyed  scampi and chips. I must admit that though the food was amazing we wont be going back. I just think that it doesn't take that much of a effort to be nice and friendly, so I would prefer to give my custom to somewhere else. Yes I am a mardy moo. haha.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

We popped into Morrison's on the way home. I don't know if it's just that Monday feeling but there are so many grumpy people around today. This then lead to my Nanna muttering that the cashier could 'kiss her arse' under her breath, which lead to my Mum and I bursting out in fits of laughter. I love how old people just say exactly what we think! She then ran through those moving doors that they always have in Morrison's. Yes you know the ones. They terrify me. I've never seem my Nanna move so fast. Both my Mum and I have said that we're going to have to get her a trolly for Christmas. haha!

Hope you all had a lovely Monday, we definitely did.

Shrinking Faces

Today the unthinkable happened... our TV broke! Luckily we had a spare television upstairs in the spare room that we never use, so we're currently sat squinting at a tiny television screen that's pretty much half the size of our old one! haha. It's done us pretty well really, but I think a television is one of those things that you expect will last forever. It's now sat sizzling away in the kitchen smelling of smoke. I have no idea what caused the sudden fault, but it can't be good. I'm just disappointed that now I'll have to wear my glasses to watch the TV. Sad times.

Broken TV XBOX

Funnier still Mike has just ejected his disc from the Xbox mid game though his sudden cleaning obsession. haha! Oh the down side to having senors instead of actual buttons. Poor bloke! haha.

I'll leave you all with that imagery, and hope you've had a better Saturday.

I miss my Japanese Boy

I've had a few days off from the blogging world which has been quite refreshing. It's also quite nice to think that I've got tons of blog posts to catch up on. Though I say that, I couldn't actually keep away from making a few slight changes to my blog. I've also created a new blog button just incase any of you guys want it.

I'm rather proud of my minimal HTML skills.

In other news I spent the whole evening hunting down copies of Glamour magazines for the free Benefit products, and I am proud to say that I got all three. I'm chuffed to bits. They did take me a while to track down but I got there in the end.

Glamour Magazine Benefit

I mainly wanted to try out the high beam as I love a good high light. I don't suppose that this will last me that long, but it will help me make up my mind on whether to pick up the full size version.

Benefit High Beam Bene Tint Posie Tint

The other two I think will last forever (unless I spill them, which I probably will) as you only use a little bit at a time. I already had a little play with them but I cannot wait to do my make-up tomorrow so I can give them a proper try.

I love, love, love Glamour magazine and their freebies. I just wish that something could be done about the packaging so dirty rotten thieves don't steal all the free gifts. Grrr. At £2 a magazine what low life feels the need to steal?

Ooh and just one more thing, is anyone else having problems viewing followers, or even following new blogs? It's driving me nuts. At least I can use the blog bar at the top of each page to follow new found blogs, but I would like be able to see my followers, especially new ones. I find a lot of new blogs by clicking on my new followers and at the moment I cannot do this. Sad times.

Hope you all have a great weekend.
I've got three days off now, so I'm rather excited for a lie in.

Raid Your Stash!

The other day whilst hunting high and low for our missing battery charger I came across a tub if old jewellery. Nothing special or of great value, but I did come across so real treasure pieces that I'd forgotten all about. I love it when that happens.

First up are the necklaces. I'd completely forgotten all about these two. I love the bird one, and after reading Mokingjay I've had a fascination with bird accessories. Yes, I know I'm a geek. These are both on a long chain which I personally favour over a shorter one.

Then the bracelets. I love bracelets but I always forget to wear them. I really need to do something about that. I love wooden bracelets. My particular favourite being the green one, purely due to it's colour. I love the vibrance, but teamed up with the others it creates a subtle burst of colour. Very pretty indeed. I bought the gold bracelets in a blog sale and instantly feel in love, but have not got around to wearing them yet. Once again another item that was stashed away for a rainy day, but then forgotten about. Though these are more of a summer item so I'm sure that I'll get some use out of them soon.

You may notice that in the first picture there are only single earrings pictures. This is because I have a major habit of loosing one out of the pair. Pretty good for me really as I only ever wear one earring at a time anyway. The bottom picture is of all my button earrings. I made these last year planning to sell them but never got around to it. I went through a whole phase of making button earrings... I have a thing about buttons too. haha.

Since getting engaged I've not really been into wearing other rings, but when I re-found these I thought I'd make an exception. The bird ring is the cutest thing ever. I remember that I found it in the sale in Boots for £2.50. I found the yellow flower ring in Primark. No surprise there then. It can't have been more than £3 as I don't know any piece of jewellery from Primark for more than £3.

So there we are then. That's what happens when you look for something.
You never actually find what you're looking for, but instead you do find things you didn't know were lost.
It kind of makes up for it.
I'd love to see any of your recent finds.
